Request information

The Civil Liability (CL) insurance for drones is a policy designed to cover the owner or operator against claims arising from damages to third parties, including both material damage and bodily injuries. This insurance covers legal defense costs and indemnities, with coverage limits that vary according to the risk assessment. Generally, it excludes losses due to negligent use or regulatory non-compliance. The protection is established in specific geographic areas and may require that the operator be duly certified. It applies to different types of drones as stipulated in the contract, being essential to ensure safe operations and liability towards third parties.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to insure a drone for use in multiple countries?

There are policies that can offer international coverage, while others are limited to a specific country or region. If you plan to operate your drone in different territories, it is crucial to verify that your insurance coverage is valid in all those places.

What situations or uses are excluded?

Among the most common exclusions are damage caused by pilots without the necessary qualifications, the use of drones in prohibited areas or outside regulations, and accidents resulting from negligent or intentionally reckless use. Additionally, night flights or flights in adverse weather conditions may also be excluded if not authorized by the regulations.

Is it mandatory to take out this insurance if I have a drone?

For UAS operators operating unmanned aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of less than 20 kilograms, it is necessary to have an insurance policy or any other form of financial guarantee that covers civil liabilities. Operators using aircraft with a takeoff weight equal to or greater than 20 kilograms are required to have a minimum insurance in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 785/2004. Although recreational drones are not legally required to have insurance, it is highly recommended to have one, given the potential risk of causing harm to people or property.
